Elbourz

Alborz (in Persan البرز), also written Elbourz or Elburz , is an assembly line in the north of the Iran, extending from the borders of the Arménie in the North-West, with the Caspian Sea in the south, until the east at the borders of the Turkménistan and the Afghanistan. It is in the south of the chain that more the high summit of Iran is located, the Mont Damavand (5671 m) and the town of Teheran.

The chain of Elbourz forms a barrier between the south of Caspian and the plate of Qazvin - Teheran. The chain measures hardly 60 to 130 km broad and consists of a series of geological layers dating from the Dévonien higher than the Oligocène, mainly made up of Calcaire on a heart of Granite.
