Axel Ganz (born the July 25th 1937 with Auggen, in the Bade-Wurtemberg) is a press baron German, founder and leader of 1978 to 2005 of the French editor Prisma presses, subsidiary of German Gruner & Jahr (group Bertelsmann). He is called “the tiger of glazed paper”. He is completely French-speaking.
Its strategy is to publish magazines at low-costs and important pullings. It also contributed to develop the visual aspect of the magazines by privileging the Maquette and the Photographie, sometimes at the expense of a very formatted text. Its principle: “To make small or a large magazine requires as many efforts, therefore to make large as much. ”
Course
Whereas it was student, Ganz starts to make a training course Photo. Having many stereotypes to sell, it moves towards the draftings. It thus starts to write reports and to follow a formation of Journaliste.
In the Years 1960, it begins as journalist with the German daily newspaper Badische Zeitung before being named corresponding to Paris of the weekly magazine Bunte . In 1970, it agrees to direct titles of the German press group Bauer.
In 1979, it launches the first magazine Gruner & Jahr to France, the monthly magazine Géo , adapted German magazine of the same name. It launches and repurchases then a score of different titles: Capital , Here , VSD , That interests me , Télé two weeks,…
In June 2005, 68 years old, it leaves the presidency of Prisma Presse to take its retirement. Its right-hand man, the French Fabrice Boé, succeeds to him the head of the group. In October 2006, it created AG+J, its own publisher, and launches the female magazine Jasmin , of which it holds 25% of the capital.
