El Viti

Santiago Martín Sánchez known as “El Viti” , born the July 18th 1938 with Vitigudino (Spain, Province of Salamanque), is old a Spanish Matador.

Presentation

During the years 1960, whereas matadors such as “El Cordobés” or “Palomo Linares” triumphed with their toreo spectacular and over bad taste in front of public little experts, especially attracted by the festive aspect of the bullfight, “El Viti” and its serious, sober and austere toréo should have passed unperceived. However, in spite of - or thanks to - its serious, its sobriety and its austerity, “El Viti” were one of the most appreciated matadors of its time. Excel capeador , large expert of the bull and of its Lidia , excel estoqueador he is regarded still today as one of the largest matadors of the years 1960.

Whereas it was still Novillero, at the time of a race in the arenas of Céret (France, department of the the Eastern Pyrenees), it was wounded and had the broken left elbow. The articulation only was incompletely restored and “El Viti” consequently kept of it a stiffness of the left arm which could have definitively moved away it from the arenas. It of it was nothing, but this stiffness of the elbow is undoubtedly, to some extent, at the origin of its natural inimitable.

“El Viti” was statufié of alive sound: its statue is set up near the Arènes of Salamanque.

Beginnings in Novillada with picadors: Ledesma (Spain, province of Salamanque) the May 31st 1957 at the sides of Handbook Ávila and Roberto Ocampo. Novillos of the Ganadería of Zumel.
Presentation with Madrid: July 18th 1960 at the sides of Tomás Sánchez Jiménez and Antonio de Jesús.
