El Sargento

Guillermo Rodríguez Martínez known as “El Sargento” , born with Huaral (Peru) the July 11th 1915, died with Cuzco (Peru) the September 23rd 1951, was a Peruvian Matador.

Presentation

After its military service, Guillermo Rodríguez decided to launch out in the toreo. It took as Apodo that of “El Sargento” ( “the Sergeant” ), rank which it had reached under the uniform.

It torée first of all in its native land, like in Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela, then goes in Spain. It takes the alternate with INCA (Spain, Balearic Islands) the July 27th 1947, with like godfather “Curro Caro” and like witness “Morenito of Valencia”, vis-a-vis bulls of the Ganadería of Eloy and Alberto Victor there Marín. It goes back then to Peru and achieves a beautiful career there.

The September 23rd 1951, in the arenas of Cuzco, it is wounded by its first bull of the ganadería of Mario Álvarez, undergoing an open fracture of the right hand. Correctly looked after, such a wound would have had only little consequence. But the wound was infected very quickly, involving the appearance of the Tétanos whose the matador was to die.
