El Panecillo
The enormous statue of the Virgin of Quito built at the top of a hill called El Panecillo (of the Spanish : bread roll) is with Quito in Ecuador.
It can be seen at the southern end of the street of the Venezuela, one longest of the old city. Of Panecillo one can see the historical battle field where the Maréchal Sweetens overcame the Spanish in the battles decisive of independence in 1822 on the sides of the volcano Pichincha in the west.
