El País

El País (in Spanish: “The country”) is the Quotidien paying general practitioner having the greatest diffusion in Spain. According to the general Study of the media ( General Estudio of Medios ) of 2005, it would have approximately 2,1 million readers. El Mundo is second from the point of view of the diffusion. El País was recently declared newspaper more read on Internet, always in front of El Mundo .

Its first edition dates from the May 4th 1976, during the Spanish Democratic transition. Its model was the newspaper French Le Monde . The newspaper belongs to the media conglomerate of the Grupo SNUFFED, managed by Ignacio Polanco.

El País follows a leading line of center-left and is regarded as close relation of the Socialists.

In 1989, El País initiated collaborations with other European newspapers. It in common takes part in a network of resources with Repubblica (Italy) and Le Monde (France). Since October 2001, a supplement Anglophone of El País is included in the Spanish version of the International Herald Tribune .

The May 4th 2004, The NewYork Times announced the exit of sound NewYork Times International Weekly in the El País , inter alia European newspapers.

In April 2006, the newspaper decides to offer a free and updated newspaper permanently, 24 Horas (24 Hours). With the format pdf and cash ten pages, any person connected to Internet can download it and print it.

October 21st, 2007, the newspaper knows its first great change of model since its creation by giving up in particular the Times New Roman with the profit of the police force Majerit drawn by the Portuguese typographer Mario Feliciano and while posting in acute accent on the " i" name of the newspaper.
