El Junco
El Junco , natural fresh water tank formed by the crater of a volcano on the heights of the island San Cristóbal', Islands Galápagos, Ecuador. Single in its kind with the Galápagos, El Junco , against very thought current, does not provide fresh water to the population. It is a zone of the National park Galapagos, a refuge for many species of birds: hens of water, ducks of the Bahamas, frigates, Finch S, Warbler S, Hérons buff-backed herons. The fresh water distributed to the village of El Progreso and to the town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno comes from collectings on perennial rivers which run out on the southern slope of the island. A small company of potabilisation of named water El Junco Springs claims to use water of El Junco, but actually it uses the water which is conveyed downtown by the 18 km of drain since the collecting of Cerro Gato . The water of the river of Cerro Gato would come, according to certain buildings, of water infiltrated under the lagoon El Junco, but this was not checked yet scientifically.
The site is located at two hours of walk of the agricultural village of El Progreso .
