El Choclo
El Choclo is a tango composed and written by Ángel Villoldo, in 1903 (or a little front).
Its author proposed it in 1903 with a friend pianist, Jose Luis Roncallo, who occurred with her traditional orchestra at the restaurant " El Americano" (located at 966 rue Cangallo, today street Teniente General Perón), in front of high the Aristocracy of Buenos Aires. Not to shock this one, the piece was presented like a " criolla danza" (Argentinian dance). The piece immediately met success.
El Choclo means " the ear of Corn ". Angel Villoldo composing of the tangos to have what to nourish itself would thus have chosen the name of one of the ingredients of the puchero like title. According to his/her sister, Irene Villoldo, " El Choclo" was the nickname of a man who had fair hair like but.
Initially instrumental, Villoldo will add a first text in 1905 to him. At the same time, a different version would have been sung in the brothels: the corn ear became a phallic Symbole there.
The singer Carlos Marambio Catán wrote other words.
In 1947, Enrique Santos Discépolo wrote in its turn new words at the request of the singer Libertad Lamarque, for the film Tampico ( Gran Casino , first feature-length film of Luis Buñuel).
The song was adapted in English in 1952 under the title KIS off Fire (" To kiss feu") and interpreted since by the many ones and famous artists (Louis Armstrong, Billy Eckstine, Tony Martin, Caterina Valente, Ikue Mori, etc).
