Einstein one the Beach

Einstein one the Beach is a opera written by Philip Glass and Robert Wilson. With one five hours duration, it is the first and the longest opera of Philip Glass. Being given the nature of the music (slow repetition of small elements, evolution and changes very gradual, recurring reasons) and the duration, Robert Wilson wanted that the entry and the exit of spectators are free. Einstein one the Beach joined two other operas ( Satyagraha in 1980 and Akhnaten in 1983) to form an abstract trilogy.

The first of the opera interpreted by the Philip Glass Ensemble was held with Avignon on July 25th, 1976 then in Hamburg, Paris, Venice, Brussels, Rotterdam and finally the Metropolitan Opera of New York.
