History
April 1st, 1980, Einstürzende Neubauten (literally “new buildings which crumbles”) made a first appearance with the Moon Club in Berlin. The formation includes/understands, at the sides of Happy Bartel and Gudrun Gut, Blixa Bargeld and NAKED Unruh. The two women of the group, Happy Bartel and Gudrun Gut, leave it after one short period and will join the female group Mania D.
In 1981, the Percussionniste FM Einheit joined Einstürzende Neubauten. They record their first album Kollaps , where they use like concrete instruments of the metal plates and other instruments which they manufacture themselves, like various electronic sounds.
During their first German round, Mark Chung joined the group and, one year later, it is with the turn of the technician-sound Alexander von Borsig to become a member about it. This formation will last 10 years.
In 1982, Einstürzende Neubauten record a second album, Zeichnungen of Patienten O.T. . The title comes from a book of the writer Leo Navratil, who described there the drawings of Oswald Tschirtner.
The following production Halber Mensch (1985) can be seen like an opening in their musical career. For the first time, the music of Einstürzende Neubauten has a certain structure, particularly in the words of Blixa Bargeld and the song which, of words or shouted sentences, are organized in poetic melodies.
During years 1990, their production evolves to a certain serenity, while keeping an approach bruitist and intellectual. They write also musics for the plays of Heiner Müller. The group is especially recognized for its scenic performances mixing conventional instruments (guitar, low) and various objects, used as sound materials especially for the percussions.
The two following albums, Fünf auf DER nach oben offenen Richterskala (1987) and Haus DER Toboggan , will meet a great success with the the United States and the Japan.
