Eighth note (sport of combat)

The eighth note is a Sport of combat originating in the island of the Meeting.

The expression “the Eighth note” entered the dictionaries of Creole and the works on the history of the Meeting, thanks to the work of Patrick Blanca, founder of the Academy the Eighth note.

With a group of impassioned (in particular Jerome Sanchez and Frederic Rubio), it carried out historical research in order to write a reference book (historical, illustrated data sheets and teaching), but also to again practice this sport “lontan” and to transmit it to the future generations.

Deliver on the Eighth note

While being based on the oral tradition, i.e. on the “alive libraries” which are our old (“gramounes” like one says to the Meeting), the collective memory fully functioned.

The discipline which had disappeared in the current from the years 1970, completely submerged by the sports come from outside, is again practiced with the Academy (and in other clubs of fight on the island of the Meeting), by young children (from 5-6 years) and of the adults.

The passage of the torch took place well

TECHNIQUES The Eighth note is a form of traditional fight but contrary to the majority of them, the action does not stop once one of the two adversaries fell on the ground. It is necessary to continue until one of both subjects by shouting “peace” or “stops”, even by typing the ground if it cannot speak any more.

The various keys, strangulations, compressions, fixed assets are used, without use with catches on clothing. Moreover, the behavior is simple: shorts and one will lycra (or tee-shirt) to limit the seizures.
