Eight American

The 8 American (sometimes called booby-trap ) is a Card deck in which each chart has effects on operation of the part. This play was popularized by the play Uno which takes again the principles in a simpler and gravitational version of them visually.

Goal of the play

To be the first player to be trued of all its charts.

Preparation of the play

The play can be played in theory with as many players as one wants, but it is then necessary consequently to adapt the number of card deck. One can decide to play with sets of 32 charts or 52 charts. To count approximately 8 charts per anybody. In turn, a player one by one distributes eight charts to each one in the direction of the needles of a watch and turns over the first chart of the pickaxe.

Course of the play

The players play each one their turn in the direction of the needles of a watch (at the beginning of the play in any case). That which starts is with the left of the donor. In his turn, the player has the choice to play (i.e. to pose a chart on the heel) is a chart of the color of that which is in top of the heel, either a chart of the same value, or one eight constantly. When a player cannot play of chart, it picks a chart and passes its turn.

For example, if the first chart of the heel is one 4 of heart, the player can play either any heart, or any 4, or any eight.

Certain charts start changes in the play (see below). The players are held to conform to it.

When it does not remain any more that one chart in the hand of a player, this one must announce " Carte" (or to knock three audible blows on the table of play). If it does not make it and that one of its adversaries realizes there, it must pick 2 charts.

NB: if the pickaxe is exhausted, then the first chart of the heel is kept, and one mixes the remainder which becomes the new pickaxe.

Action of the charts

Those being subjected to very many interpretations, it is advisable to agree before beginning the part. Here a version is proposed which one will be able to modify with his own way:
  • ACE: fact of picking 4 charts with the following player
  • SERVANT: change the direction of the play
  • 10: rejouer
  • 8 allows: can be played constantly in its turn, except when one must pick and allows to choose the new color to play
  • 7: the following player passes his turn
  • 2: fact of picking 2 charts with the following player

Other proposals: one can choose a chart which will make it possible to exchange its play with an adversary (council: the joker), or to make play which one wants immediately…

Another version

  • ACE: one gives 1 chart to the following player

  • 2: the other player must obligatorily pose another 2, if not it must pick 2 charts; if it does it the following player must obligatorily pose another 2 and so on; if not it picks 2 X the number of 2 posed after; after having picked, chart 2 loses its effect.
  • 3: the following player passes his turn.
  • 4: " should be said; 4" , if not a player can say " against-quatre" , and thus the player who said " 4" receives 2 charts of the pickaxe.
  • 5: joker, but one plays the color of the five in question.
  • 6: the other player picks a chart
  • 7: the other player passes his turn.
  • 8: joker, and one says the color which one has desire
  • 9: the following player draws a chart in the play from that which posed the 9
  • 10: rejouer
  • SERVANT: change of direction
  • DAME/ROI: on any lady can be posed any king and vice versa.

Another version (also called " chart and maou" Far57450)

  • 7: Fact of picking 2 charts with the following player

  • 8: Fact of passing its turn to the next player
  • 10: rejouer
  • SERVANT allows: can be played constantly in its turn, except when one must pick and allows to choose the new color to play
Since there remain to you 1 chart in hand, you must say " carte" and when you deposit it must say " maou" if not the hand is cancelled and you pick 2.

Another version (ulis)

  • ACE: pick 2 charts. accumulate when others aces its posed.

  • 2: the following player passes his turn, allows rejouer lorqu' it remains only 2 players. He can be posed on another 2, one 7, or one 10.
  • 7: rejouer. he can be posed on one 10, or one 2 if there remain 2 players.
  • 8: can be posed at any time of the play, and allows to cancel to pick of the charts when aces are posed. Allows to choose its sign.
  • 10: rejouer. it can be posed on one 7, or one 2 if there remain 2 players.
  • JOKER: can be posed at any time of the play. it takes the color and the sign which you want.

Another version

  • 2: Fact of picking 2 charts with the following player

  • 2 of Spade: Fact of picking 4 charts with the following player
  • 8: Can be played constantly in its turn, except when one must pick. Allows to choose the new color to play
  • 10: The play turns of edge if you play more than two players; you rejouez if you play only two players
  • SERVANT: Fact of passing its turn to the next player if you play more than two players; you rejouez if you play only two players
  • JOKER: can be played constantly in its turn, except when one must pick. Allows to choose the new color to be played and makes pick 5 charts with the following player.
  • ACE: Allows to play all the charts of the same kind that the ace (ex: Ace of heart + all other charts of heart which the player has)
NB: the remainder of the charts is posed of sign in sign ou/et of figures in figures.
  • Rules of the game:
  • - the person who with the lady of heart begins the play, if nobody with the lady of heart another lady can be posed. If nobody has a lady one takes a chart in the pickaxe.
  • - the attempts at cheating are réprimandées by 3 additional charts.
  • - When it remains you that a chart in hand, announce while saying: CHART or by knocking three audible blows on the table of play.

Another version with 32 charts

  • ACE: oblige the following player to pick 2 charts (and to pass its turn) or to pose another ace. Thus, if 3 players pose one after the other have each one, the 4th player, if it does not have an ace, must pick 2+2+2=6 charts. To 2 players, it allows also rejouer.

  • 10: opposite the direction of rotation of the play. To 2 players, it allows also rejouer.

  • 9: oblige the following player to pass his turn. To 2 players, it allows also rejouer.

  • 8: allows to choose the color which the following player must play. It can be played on any chart; it does not matter its color. A square of 8 makes it possible to gain the part.

  • 7: rejouer allows.

Points

One can decide to count the points. When one of the players gained, one counts the points remained in hand of the other players. Those amount as follows:
  • an honor (King or Lady): 10 points
  • a normal chart (9, 6,5,4,3): its face value
  • a chart for " purpose; moyen" (Servant, 10,2): 20 points
  • a chart for " purpose; fort" (Ace or 8): 50 points

If one counts, gaining it is that which has less points at the end of the part.

Alternatives

There exist very many alternatives of this play, in particular with regard to the significance which one gives to each chart. Among most famous of the alternatives one can note:
  • the pickaxe: if a player cannot play, then it must pick of the charts until it has one that it can pose.
  • office plurality: if a player plays a chart which makes pick (Ace or 2 in the version proposed), the player following to the possibility of playing over an identical chart in value (another ACE, another JOKER or another 2) and so on. In this case, the player who will have neither ACE nor 2 to play will have to pick a number of charts cumulated (for example, if 3 ACES were played, 3*4=12 charts will have to be picked)
  • with the stolen one: if a player with a chart exactly identical to that which is on the top of the heel (i.e. even color and even value) then it can play it immediately without that being its turn. The play begins again then normally starting from this player.
  • to two: note that with two players only, the charts which make change direction or pass a turn have the same effect as those which make rejouer.
  • others: the ace allows the player who deposits the chart to true all his play which is same kind and the " Joker" fact of picking 4 charts with the player selected by the deposor of the chart on the heel.
