Egyptology

The term Egyptology indicates a field of study privileged in certain branches of the social sciences (Archéologie and Histoire). This field of study specifically is interested in the geographical area called Egypt today and covers, usually, the pre-Pharaonic and ancient periods.

History

The France has an Egyptological long tradition which goes back at the 18th century and the forwarding of Napoleon Bonaparte in Egypt. Indeed, this forwarding was not only one military countryside. Bonaparte took along with him of the scientists and the artists who could study and paint with leisure the vestiges of old Egypt. The result of this work was gathered in the impressive work: Description of Egypt or Collection of the observations and research which was made in Egypt during the forwarding of the French Army, published under the orders of Napoleon Bonaparte .

The Germany, the the United States and the Great Britain also took share with archaeological research in Egypt. For example, the British Museum has rooms reserved for the brought back objects of Egypt. Some of these vestiges are besides in the middle of diplomatic conflicts with Egypt.
