Egyptian Religion

The religion of the ancient Egypt , one of large the Religion S polytheists of Mediterranean space ancient, date of at least of and disappears only with its prohibition by the Christian Roman Emperors at the 4th century. During the five thousand years of the history of Pharaonic Egypt, the religion, very present in the life of the Egyptians, evolved only little /moved. However, according to the periods, some gods became prevalent whereas others passed in the second plan. Moreover, each worship being originating in a different area, the place of each god also varied according to the area.

It is a theanthropic religion which founds the Pharaon like a God.

In the Egyptian thought, the gods worked the Earth and established a harmonious order (Maât) allowing the miracle life to achieve itself day after day. It is with only the Pharaon, going down from the gods, that returns the task to ensure the perenniality of this harmony and to fight the forces of the evil which continuously seek to break it. For this reason, Pharaon is the only intermediary between the divinities and the mortals. The maintenance of the divine harmony requiring of many daily worships through all the country of Egypt, the Pharaon cannot ensure only the material execution of it. It is there the fundamental role of the priest: to compensate Pharaon in the material execution of the daily rites.

Pharaon is also one of the first to be worried about the direction of his dreams. He thus entrusts to a priest reader , very important character, their interpretation which can determine the policy of the State.

Temples

For the Egyptians, the temple was not that a place of prayer, it was the terrestrial residence of the god. The gods had chosen to live there in the shape of the divine statue and the priests took care of their wellbeing by offerings and the rites of the worship.

The temples also had an initiatory function and the young priests learned there subtleties from theology and wisdom from Old. They were also astronomical centers of studies and, by the Per-Ânkh , of the centers of studies very short where the scribes copied and commented on the crowned texts.
