Eguenigue

Eguenigue is a common French, located in the department of the Territoire of Belfort and the area Franche-Comté. It is administratively attached to the Canton of Fountain and belonged to the Communauté of communes of the Lime.

The village is located between Roppe and Menoncourt at 7km of Belfort, at an altitude of approximately 360 meters. The territory of the commune, which extends on 248 hectares, is crossed by the trunk road N83 which connects Belfort to Mulhouse. Population of the village, which was of 246 inhabitants in 1803 slightly progressed to reach the figure of 283 in 1999.

The first unquestionable mention of the name of the village in the writings goes back to 1307 in the form Hagueligues . Of XVe at the XIXe century, mines allow the extraction of a and iron ore in grains which is treated in fournaux Masevaux Châtenois.
Of 1913 with 1948 the line Belfort Lachapelle-under-Rougemont of the Railroad of local interest of the Territory of Belfort crossed the village.

Eguenigue has a vault of the XVIIe century dedicated to Holy-Brigitte and Saint-Roch. She depends on the parish of Phaffans.
