Biography
It started to paint as of 1905, in particular Autoportrait S. His/her father died this year, and his/her uncle, who became his tutor, tried to direct it towards a career in the railroads. With the agreement of his mother and the support of her professor of drawing, it entered to the Academy of the fine arts of Vienna, where it had evil to support the academic supervision of his professors.
In Vienna, he however discovered an art different during an exposure from artists of the second movement of Sezession (Sécession in French), nearer to the Art nouveau; in 1907, it met Gustav Klimt, which was interested in him and was for him its model and its Master. Schiele he dedicated a great admiration, admiration which was reciprocal on behalf of Klimt. It made its first exposure in 1908.
At its beginnings, Schiele remained close to the Jugendstil (name given to the Sécession movement in Germany by the Jugend review), then it took its distances. In 1909, it took part in International the Kunstschau; it was this year that it settled in Vienna, after having lived with Krumau, in Bohemia of the South (today Český Krumlov, in Czech Republic. It then painted many portraits of friends and Autoportrait S.
It met in 1911 an young woman with the sulfurous reputation, Wally Neuzil, which was used to him as model. It was stopped in 1912 because of its erotic drawings and the suspicion carried against him of diversion of minors, which was worth to him to spend twenty-four days in prison. One of its most famous works of this time was the Cardinal and the nun , plagiarism of the Baiser Gustav Klimt. Starting from 1913, it took part in many international exhibitions.
It broke with Wally Neuzil and married Edith Arms the June 17th 1915, thus inaugurating a less tormented period of its creation. October 28th 1918, his wife, then in the sixth month of its pregnancy, died of the Spanish Grippe. Egon Schiele died of the same disease, three days later, on October 31st 1918.
Work
Its works are many and remarkable from the point of view of the drawing. This one is very Net, with a marked feature, energetic and sure, sometimes even violent one. The knowledge of the human body which Egon Schiele has is all the more remarkable as it does not make disappear the skeleton under the flesh, it draws it in the logic of its movements and postures and gives him three dimensions thus, with the place that they are two, as it is often the case in other artists. Its portraits and its naked moreover are seized in installations strange, even caricatural, Egon Schiele having studied the attitudes of certain demented people in a psychiatric asylum, as well as the positions of the handled puppets, which gives this “désarticulé” aspect specific to some of its characters and its Article.
Schiele made nearly a hundred Autoportrait S the sometimes naked representative, with a face desiccated and tormented, or afflicted with an impressive strabism, humorous allusion to its family name: indeed, “schielen” means to have a cast in German, and many hostile criticisms to its art did not hesitate to make word games of them.
Its paintings caused and cause undoubtedly still the spectators, causing on their premises certain a faintness by their report/ratio with the Mort and the erotism, but also by certain greenish colors of the decomposition.
