Ego
Ego (or sometimes ego ) is a substantive drawn from the Latin personal pronoun ego (“Me”). It generally indicates the Représentation and the Conscience which one has of oneself. He is sometimes regarded the base of the personality (in particular in psychology) or as an obstacle with our personal development (in particular in spirituality).
Ego as a philosophical concept
The ego would be according to certain authors the psychological equivalent of the Conscience, with the philosophical direction. But with the reflection, a ego is a I , with feel Cartesian: a I which perceives information, the draft or expresses some. What can lead us to say, in a Platonic design of the self-awareness, which the ego is a I without the conscience.
One speaks about Alter ego to refer to this Entité which composes the other, but which is similar to the Me.
Ego as a psychoanalytical concept
This concept is in the middle of what is called the Ego-psychology, psychoanalytical doctrines developed in the United States by Ernst Kris, Heinz Hartmann and Rudolph Loewenstein. On the same axis of reflection, Anna Freud made ego the center of the Réalité of the subject.
This theory aims at an adaptation to reality and is based on work of Freud after 1920, where it gives an importance increasing to ego and the mechanisms of defense.
Ego as a sociological concept
The valorization of the ego is expressed by the English term Egoboo ( ego boost ).
Ego in spirituality
For a certain number of spiritual currents, the ego is a false representation that an individual is done itself. This representation makes screen so that this man is fundamentally and who cannot be defined, encircled by words. Certain authors speak about distorts personality where memories and experiments were bound, it differs from the original personality whose any human being because of its birth and of its genetic heritage is equipped. This illusion is denounced by these authors, because it deprives people who are prisoners of a true freedom and connects them with diagrams of suffering (self-centredness, pride, vanity, self-esteem).
In these designs, a person who released herself from her ego is in right track to carry out her spiritual awakening. The methods to release itself from the influence of the ego are varied and each school has his more or less.
In the field of the modern Spirituality and Transpersonnel, the ego is often used in distinction of the Oneself (it me higher). In English: the Coil and the Higher-Coil .
Ego according to Buddhism
The Bouddhisme perceives the ego like a mental construction not corresponding to a tangible reality. Indeed, where can the ego be located? In the arms, the legs? … One realizes that it is not in the body, but only in the Esprit. The way consists inter alia being released from this vision which places us in the center of all.
