Eggman

In the series of Sonic the Hedgehog , the Doctor Eggman or the Doctor Ivo Robotnik (for the United States and Europe in the first versions), is the enemy of Sonic the Hedgehog. Its designer is Naoto Ohshima. It is one of the unpleasant most famous scientists of the history of the video games.

Presentation

Dr. Robotnik, the grandson of Professor Gerald Robotnik, is a insane scientific genius with an IQ of 300 and one very childish behavior. He tries to conquer the world by controlling the population thanks to robotization to serve his whims. Sonic and its friends are thus always charged to stop it. He is obese, with a body in form of egg (from which its name comes, Eggman , literally the man egg). He is sometimes drawn with long arms and thread-like feet and sometimes with shorter members. He tends to use exclusively the combinations of color Rouge and Noir and is often depicts with glasses pince-nez tinted. In other descriptions its eyes are black with Pupille S reds, but its glasses give him an appearance of scientist.

He built many flying vessels like Egg Carrier and a space station called Death EGG. He also built a great number of Robot S, a certain number resembling either Sonic, or with itself. In the majority of the video games, the unpleasant principal is the final Boss beaten by the player. Eggman, on the contrary, seems the boss of the video game of each level in the majority of the Sonic plays, in a different machine each time. An young girl seeming phantom in Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog, Maria Robotnik, would belong to her family, but one does not know who it is exactly.

Egg robot

The robots with the appearance of Doctor Robotnik developed everywhere in the series, appearing initially in Sonic & Knuckles with simple but the many Egg-Club-footed ones or Egg-Robots.

Thereafter, Robotnik created its inventions more the mortals: the E-100 series, in particular including E-101 Beta, E-102 Gamma, E-103 the Delta, E-104 epsilon, E-105 Zeta, E-123 Omega and E-121 Phi. Robotnik forced Gamma to fight his/her Beta brother, who was theoretically higher. The observation of the combat of Beta made it possible Robotnik to analyze its creations and of constasté that Gamma was higher than Beta. This last was condemned to be used as spare parts. After a meeting with Amy Pink and its chance discovery of dismounted and remade Beta, Gamma decides to release the animals imprisoned in the robots and not to obey Robotnik more.

The Egg of dead (Death Egg)

The Egg of death made its first appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Sega Megadrive or Sega Genesis, in 1992, where it was aggissait of a Space station in the moon shape. It was the final level of the play, containing only two boss to be fought. Once Doctor Robotnik overcome by Sonic, the station lands in catastrophe on the Floating Island.

The Egg of death was the space station of Doctor Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles . Always in the moon shape, the vessel was built with the image of the face of Robotnik. This idea was re-used thereafter for the ARK, the space colony in Sonic Adventure 2 . In Sonic 3 , Robotnik repaired Egg of died and is about to launch it when Sonic arrives in the Zone of Launching base (Lauch Base Zone, 6th zone of the play). Sonic goes up on board giant space station and Doctor Robotnik is still overcome, causing the destruction of the space station.

In Sonic & Knuckles , the event is changed: instead of being destroyed, the station falls from the sky and lands in the volcano of the palate of the Angel Island (previously called the Floating Island).

In the play of arcade Sonic the Fighters , Robotnik creates Egg of the death 2, which is again the refuge of both last boss. It is then destroyed (before the completion of its construction) and does not reappear thereafter any more.

In Sonic Adventure 2 , one can see colony ARK built by his/her large father. It is supposed that it was destroyed after the plan of Gerald Robotnik was put in action.

The Egg of death is a reference to the Black Star of Star Wars .

Sonic metal

Robotnik, put aside the robots that it creates with its image, also seems to try to make the robot resembling Sonic as much as possible to counter its rival. Its first attempt was called the Roller , which was in Spring Yard Zone of Sonic the Hedgehog . It was to some extent a failure, since which they could only roll and could be destroyed by Sonic very easily.

Silver Sonic in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Sonic in the Japanese version Matched) is an improvement on the model of Roller, but is always a failure owing to the fact that it was the total opposite of the original - slow, not very handy, large and stupid. There exists another version of Silver Sonic in the play Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Master System. This version of the robot is much closer to Sonic. He is also the guard of the 7th Chaos Emerald He réeaparait in Sonic Geo Pocket in Boos

In Sonic and Knuckles , Dr. Robotnik created another robot: Sonic MKII matched. It is of appearance smoother and more aggressive, but also faster and able to fly. This frightening robot is even able to use the capacity of the emerald mother. This version seems Boss with three recoveries in the play. One can also see it as a Easter egg in Sonic Adventure 1.

the most crowned success, and also that which generally returns, is until now Metal Sonic however one him quands even demolished to him vis-a-vis Sonic in Sonic CD , continued to badger the group with Chaotix, in particular while being transformed into a giant version of itself, but it once again was demolishes. In Sonic Heroes , Metal Sonic is made pass for Robotnik because it wishes to copy the DNA of the heroes but is finally still beaten.

Its name in the plays

Eggman knew several names. In the Japanese plays one always simply knew it like " Doctor Eggman". However, in all the Sonic plays left to America and Europe until Sonic Adventure, one knew it under the name of Dr. Robotnik.

In the comics of Sonic and other European series it was marked that its complete name was, in fact, " Dr. Ivo Robotnik" , but that it was called " Dr. Ovi Kintobor" before an accident makes it malefic. In the same way archie comics and the SatAM used this name of Kintobor " Julian Kintobor" this time) and that it had named Robotnik when it took Mobotropolis control (it would have always been bad). In these first series, Sonic and its friends referred to Eggman by a certain number of not very flattering nicknames, including " Ro-butt-nik" and sometimes just, " the Goal-nik" or " Robo-nul". The first name of " Ivo" is often engraved on its machines (not very visible).

In Sonic adventure however, Sega wanted to convert the European and American players with the Japanese name, Doctor Eggman. Initially, the two names were used, it was called itself Robotnik while the other characters called it Eggman. In the following plays and also in the English doubling of Sonic X, the name Robotnik was removed quasi entirely of the series, except for Sonic X in French.

The generally allowed idea consists now of what its real name is Robotnik and its nickname (that it uses sometimes itself) Eggman. This idea comes owing to the fact that in the Japanese version of Sonic X, its chart of profile gives like name: " ROBOTNIK (Doctor Eggman) " and also of the family name of his/her grandfather, Gerald Robotnik.

In the series of archie, true Doctor Robotnik (Julian Kintobor, to see above) was killed. This Robotnik called Eggman forever. One knew his substitute, Robotnik of a universe parallel, called Robotnik, Robotnik Mk II, Robo-Robotnik or Eggman. Currently it is called officielemnt Robotnik, but is sometimes called Eggman.

One can of the remainder say that the name of Eggman comes from the song of the Beatles " I amndt the Walrus" (compound by Paul McCartney and John Lennon). One of the lines of the song says " indeed; I amndt the Eggman". If the Morse of the song (the walrus in English) initially refers to the character of the counting rhyme " Morse and the charpentier" of Lewis Carroll in his book On other side of the mirror, one can notice that the protagonist of the series has moustache like a Morse, although its general design was influenced by the US president Theodore Roosevelt.

Sega Sonic

The series " SegaSonic" was created by Sega off Japan for the original play, it is often regarded as the scenario " officiel". As Sonic is a Japanese creation, the Japanese scenario should be truth. This series does not give much information on the origins of Eggman, only which he is an insane scientist who wants to conquer the world by controlling the animal population and by locking up them in robots. It tries to find Emeralds of Chaos in order to be able to exploit their power. This scenario was partly included in the modern plays. In spite of the fact that the most recent plays introduced some other family members of Robotnik, its history is always mainly unknown. The best friend of Robotnik Doctor Jay never appeared in the series animated because of controversy. Jay is a scientist (biologist) who created a virus to neutralize Sonic and take Emeralds. Jay seizes Emeralds thanks to the assistance of Robotnik but Sonic succeeds in finding Jay in its space station Red Beehive (Red Hive). After a combat without mercy Sonic destroys the engines of Red Beehive. A vortex then is created and Jay sent in another dimension. Red Beehive is crushed then on Mobius (planet of Sonic).
