Eggdrop

A eggdrop (egg laying) is a popular robot IRC for its flexibility and the packed library of extensions and scripts.

He was initially written in December 1993 by Robey Pointer to supervise the channel #gayteen on EFnet. Programmed in Language C, a API is provided in order to authorize the use of scripts and extensions, which make it possible the user to finely improve the functionalities of the Robot IRC. The language used is traditionally the Tcl. The support of Perl is planned for a future version.

The majority of the robots launched by normal users are of Eggdrops, in opposition to the robots of waiter, such as BotServ, which are them implemented by the Services IRC.

Thanks to its popularity, Eggdrop has a plethora of scripts available, the majority of them created by the users themselves, such as plays with questions and answers, distribution of file (usually by the protocol DCC) to scripts of management of living rooms.

It is possible to create a network of robots. It is a question of connecting several eggdrops between them, in order to make them act in a coordinated way: share information on the users, to act in the place of a eggdrop temporarily absent, to banish somebody on several living rooms in a simultaneous way. The users who are connected to a botnet, by telnet or DCC Chat, can communicate between them by the means of internal living rooms, with the manner of a miniature network IRC (living room 0 being the channel by defect, which one calls partyline ).

The official assistance is on the channel #eggdrop network Undernet. The assistance for eggdrop is also available on living room IRC #egghelp on EFnet and Freenode. There is also a living room of assistance for the programming Tcl, and the extensions specific to Tcl for the eggdrops on Undernet, called #Tcl.
