Effiat

Effiat is a common French, located in the department of the Puy-de-Dôme and the area Auvergne.

Geography

The small commune could be the Archétype of the city of the Limagne. Effiat remains a primarily agricultural commune. The commune is located a few kilometres from Aigueperse, in the canton of this same commune, in the district of Riom.

The majority of the inhabitants are gathered in the borough. But Effiat counts also three Hameau X isolated: Bethueix, Denone, and Olhat.

History

The initial village was located at the top of the hill which overhangs the commune. During the construction of the castle, the marquis of the time had decided to take this space for his park. The village is now located in on this side castle.

  • the military royal school of Effiat

Under the Old Mode, was in the enclosure of the castle of Effiat, a military academy, the military royal school of Effiat held by the Oratoriens. One of the most famous pupils of this school was the General Desaix.
  • the castle of Denone, admirable building whose the first stones were united as of the 16th century, and located in the hamlet of the same name, belonged in particular to the counts d' Effiat, like to the family of Louise de Marillac. It also lodged Richelieu, towards 1629.
