Effendi

Effendi , Turkish word which one makes derive from a word of low the grecity, authentès (αυθεντης), marked avthendis , i.e. lord, Master. He is used to designate the legal profession, the civil civils servant, the scientists, the well-read men; he places himself following a proper name or name of the profession. This word also answers the Mister French and is hardly than a term of courtesy as of the 19th century.

Effendi was also the most rank which black African could reach in the British King' S African Rifles , the British colonial army in Eastern Africa. It would correspond to the rank of lieutenant but without the title of officer.
