Edward Jump

Edward Bond is a Dramaturge born in 1934, in Holoway, popular quarters of the north of London, in a working-class family of country origin. Child, it knows the bombardments, undergoes school exclusion, and starts to work at fifteen years. He discovers the theater by the musichall, where his/her sister worked, and with a representation of Macbeth which he sees adolescent. He studies it as an autodidact and starts to write at the end of the Fifties.

He is noticed by the Royal Short Theater which will create its first parts, and to which he will remain attached until the Seventies. Its first public part, Saved , created in 1965, causes an enormous scandal which will found its notoriety, before becoming an international success. It has since writing more than forty parts, for the great British theatrical institutions ( Lear , the Sea , Insane the …), as well as for more modest, coeds or militant troops ( Jackets , the Worlds …). Its work also includes/understands booklets of operas and ballets for Hans Werner Henze, of the adaptations, the translations (of Tchekhov and Wedekind), of the scenarios for the cinema, the parts radiophonic ( Chaise , Existence ) or televised ( Tuesday and Prison ) and an abundant poetry.

It in addition develops an important reflection on the theater, its bases anthropological and its cultural, political and moral function, from which it creates new practical means, tested in frequent workshops of actors or students. In the Eighties, it breaks partially with the British institutional scene, but still authorizes some of its creations. However, it is devoted primarily to the writing of parts for the teenagers who assemble themselves largely to the United Kingdom like abroad. ( Near the inland sea, the Children or Eleven Dockers, Arcade …). Its work especially is diffused abroad, and particularly in France, where she knows since the Nineties an important echo. It continues to write many theoretical texts on the theater and the company. The tetralogy was specifically written for the National theater of the Hill. Alain Françon created In the company of the men , the trilogy Pièces of war ( Rouge black and ignoramus, the Fury of the rich, Grande Peace ), Café , the Crime of XXIe century and If it is not you .
