Eduard van Beinum

Eduard van Beinum is a Leader Dutch, born the September 3rd 1901 with Arnhem and dead the April 13rd 1959 with Amsterdam

Biography

After having studied the violin and the piano as of its more young age, it is engaged as violonist in the orchestra of Arnhem into 1918 before becoming about it the chief of 1927 to 1931. Then it joined the Orchestre of Concertgebouw of Amsterdam as assisting chief of Wilhelm Mengelberg until in 1938, date on which he becomes principal chief at the sides of Mengelberg.

In 1947, he becomes chief of the Philharmonic orchestra of London but very quickly returns to Amsterdam in order to assume only the musical direction there, until its unexpected death at the time of a repetition at only 58 years. From 1956 with its death, it also ensured the musical direction of the Philharmonic orchestra of Los Angeles.

Repertory

There remains much less known than its Mengelberg predecessor or his successor Bernard Haitink because of a traditional and respectful direction of the partition. One will retain two superb discs with Amsterdam, devoted to the two last symphonies of Bruckner, the symphonies nº 8 and nº 9.
