EduLinux

EduLinux is a Québécois Distribution Linux based on the distribution Mandriva (in the past Mandrake) .

Operating system complete (work station and waiter), EduLinux wants to be a distribution simple to use and offering a broad choice of software dedicated in the middle of education.

It was born from the passion and the know-how of some developers with Sherbrooke (with the Quebec), and from the vision of a senior of University. This distribution was developed by students of the Université of Sherbrooke, Révolution Linux, a Québécois company, and the GULUS.

The principal developers are Benoît of Ligneris, Jean-Michel Dault and Francis Giraldeau.

History

The first version of EduLinux was put in line in May 2003 under the name of “EduLinux 9.1” (based on Mandrake Linux 9.1). It is about the first Linux distribution of Québécois origin.

The version 2004 of EduLinux (based on Mandrake Linux 10.0 Official) was delivered on May 31st, 2004.

A version 2006 of ÉduLinux was initially envisaged, but the development of the project was arrété in favor of a development more engaged in the project Mille-Xterm, aiming at making possible the deployment and the exploitation of a very great number of light customers open source.
