The Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center speaks about Dujardin like “important voice for the Symbolists” voice for the symbolists".
After the death of his/her parents, Dujardin inherited their fortune which he spent partly to finance the setting in scene of his plays, the Knight of last the in 1882 and Antonia in 1891.
Its works are varied and include a great number of the plays, poems and novels. Dujardin also left tests of literary and social criticism and memories. James Joyce recognized the influence of works of Dujardin on its own literary research, in particular the Stream of consciousness. Dujardin kept bonds with journalism during all its life, often entering in conflict with the capacity. He saw himself accusing of treason, but considered to be guilty forever.
Dujardin had tastes of luxury out of vestimentary matter and counted with the number of the dandies and the Parisian night birds of the time. Its many connections were notorious, in particular with the actresses, of the models and other tempting women. Dujardin had several friends who made career in art and it sometimes helped them financially.
Having wasted its fortune in this frivolous way of life, it had to launch out in the lucrative companies like the play and the real estate. It put also its literary talents at the service of the newspapers by writing advertisements. It is in one of these newspapers that the police force found an article compiled by Dujardin for which he was condemned to a custodial sentence which was commuted later.
In 1885, Dujardin and Téodor de Wyzewa found the Wagnerian Revue , after the eeRevue Indépendanteee of Felix Fénéon created the previous year. One of the innovations of the newspaper consisted in organizing exposures in its buildings.
