Edouard Berth

Edouard Berth (1875-1939) was a French theorist of the revolutionary Syndicalisme. Socialist thinker French, Edouard Berth was before all the most faithful disciple of Georges Sorel (1847-1922).

Disciple of P-J Proudhon, in favor of a Socialism anti-étatiste parking autonomy of the Working class, in his spirit the Syndicat was to form the basic cell of the proletarian new business.

Its mystical socialism near to that defended by Georges Sorel or Charles Péguy will constantly lead it to evolve/move of the Extreme-left (Bolchévisme, revolutionary Syndicalisme) to the royalists (French Action) with the liking of the political circumstances.

From 1899, Edouard Berth became a regular collaborator of the socialist Mouvement before breaking with this review in 1909. Active defender of the experiments reformists of Millerand until 1902, it evolved then gradually to the revolutionary trade unionism.

From 1909, Berth approaches the movement Monarchiste and founds with Georges Valois the Cahiers of the Circle Proudhon in 1911. It then tries to propose a synthesis of the revolutionary trade unionism and Corporatisme.

From 1917, it is filled with enthusiasm for the revolution Bolshevik and sees there a new expression of the class struggle. Collaborator of the review Clearness, it will again join the rows of the revolutionary trade unionism as from 1935.
