Edouard-Henri April, born on May 21st, 1843 with Algiers and died in 1928 with the Raincy, also known under the name of Paul April for his erotic illustrations, is a painter and artist French.

April studied art at the time of different Parisian living room. From 1874 to 1878 it makes the École of Beautiful arts in Paris. Thereafter it is contacted to illustrate the news Fortunio of Théophile Gautier. It is on this occasion that it adopts the pseudonym Paul April. It is made a reputation thus and again receives contracts to illustrate important authors of the gallant literature. These books were generally sold in small editions on the basis of subscription.

April illustrated Salammbô of Gustave Flaubert, the King Caundale of Gautier, Fanny Hill of John Cleland, the adventures of the Knight of Faublas of Jean-Baptiste Louvet de Couvray, My Uncle Barbassou of Mario Uchard, the Woman of Jules Michelet, Musque, Hashish and blood of Hector France, novelles of Pietro Aretino, two books of Octave Uzanne, Gamiani of Alfred de Musset as well as other anonymous works. Its works major are the illustrations for De Figuris Veneris. Traditional handbook of erotology of Friedrich Karl Forberg.
