Edmund Stoiber
Edmund Rüdiger Stoiber , born on September 28th, 1941 with Oberaudorf, is a German politician of the Christian woman-social Union in Bavaria (CSU). He was minister-president de Bavière of 1993 to 2007 and chair CSU of 1999 to 2007.
Formation
Stoiber follows studies in Political sciences and then in Droit to the university of Munich. It passes in 1967 its first examination of State and in 1971 its second examination of State and its Doctorat.
It is called at the office in 1978.
Stoiber is a roman catholic.
Career
May 28th, 1993, it succeeds Theodor Waigel, become federal minister for Finances, at the post of minister-president of Bavaria. In 1999, he is elected president of the CSU, succeeding Theodor Waigel again.
With the federal legislative elections of 2002, Stoiber is the candidate of CDU/CSU to the chancellery, but the line is preceded of three seats and: 10000 votes by the social democrat of Gerhard Schröder.
After years of competition between Stoiber and Angela Merkel, president of the Union Christian Democrat of Germany (CDU), Stoiber agrees to let Merkel carry out the battle for the elections of 2005. At the conclusion of the elections, the CDU/CSU and the SPD form a great coalition with Merkel with the chancellery. October 17th, Merkel indicates Stoiber to occupy the station of Minister for the Economy and Technologies of sound future government. But on November 1st, he announces that he gives up entering to the federal cabinet.
January 18th, 2007, Stoiber announces its progressive withdrawal of the political life. September 29th, the Minister for the Economy Erwin Huber succeeds to him the presidency of the CSU, Stoiber becoming honorary president. September 30th, Stoiber, resigns of the post of minister-president, to which must succeed to him on October 9th the Minister of Interior Department Günther Beckstein, selected in June by group CSU in Landtag.
