Edmond Richer
Edmond Richer (1559 with Cheney -1631), Doctor of Divinity, syndic of the faculty of theology of the Sorbonne and in favor of the Gallicanisme, opened the way with the running Jansenist by relativizing the authority of the pope.
Edmond Richer studied first of all with the Collège of Cardinal-Lemoine, then in the Sorbonne where it obtained the title of Doctor of Divinity. He was in favor of the Ligue, then adopted the authority of the new king, Henri IV. He developed his theses in his treaty Libellus de Ecclesiastica and Politica Potestate (1610), condemned to the council of Direction chaired by the cardinal of the Perron (1612). This council the déchut also of its authority of syndic of the university. Imprisoned, Richer retracted finally on December 7th, 1629.
