Edmond Dubrunfaut
Edmond Dubrunfaut , born with Denain (France) the April 21st 1920 and deceased with Furnes (Belgium) on July 13rd, 2007 is a painter and a Belgian tapestry maker .
Its family, in the search of work, settles with Calonne when it is two years old, a village of carriers and cement-manufacturers in the Tournai located. His/her mother dies whereas it is only four years old.
At the 15 years age, Dubrunfaut, which profited from the support of his/her aunt near her father, between with the Academy of the Art schools de Tournai where it follows the course of house painting. Dubrunfaut quickly gives up this section for the courses of drawing of Jean Leroy and painting of Leonce Pion.
In 1937, Dubrunfaut goes to Paris where he visits the World Fair. It discovers there the work of many artists (Raoul Dufy, Fernand Leger, Le Corbusier, Pablo Picasso, tapestries of Strebelle, Wynants, Jespers and ceramics of Charles Counaye) which persuades it that monumental art and the tapestry have a future. Between 1940 and 1943, it follows the course of monumental painting of Charles Counaye to the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of Architecture and of decorative Arts of Cambre. With the end of the year 1942, it founds in Tournai a workshop of weaving, the Leroy workshop. With the Release, in 1945, it creates a second workshop, the Taquet workshop. Three years later, it publishes proclamation for mural art and becomes member of the Young Belgian painting. Shortly after the end of the Second world war, it founds with Deltour and Somville the Center of the Restoration of the Tapestry of Turned. In 1947 the proclamation of Mural Forces is published which marks the birth of the group. It takes part in the creation of the Art groups and Reality (1954) and Cuesmes 68 (1968). From 1947 to 1978, he teaches monumental art with the Academy of the Art schools of Mons. In 1979, it takes part in the creation of the Foundation of the tapestry, of arts of fabric and of mural arts of Turned.
Part of its works is preserved at the Institut of working, economic and social History with Seraing.
