Edmond Dantès

Edmond Dantès is a character of fiction: the hero of the novel the Count of Assembles-Cristo of Alexandre Dumas father.

Character

Appointed captain of the Pharaon, the sailor Edmond Dantès is about to marry beautiful Mercedes when it is locked up with the Château of Yew, shown wrongly Bonapartisme. Another prisoner, the Abbot Faria which digs a tunnel for an escape since many years, binds friendship with him and entrusts to him the existence of a treasure hidden on the island of Assembles-Cristo. After fourteen years of captivity, Edmond Dantes finally manages to escape (it is then 33 years old. He entered in prison at 19 years) He becomes then the richissime count of Assembles-Cristo and is avenged for those which sent it in prison. Among the enemies of the count, one finds, Villefort, the prosecutor of the king, Danglars, the banker of Dantès and the count de Morcerf, the rival in love of Dantès, like his son Albert de Morcerf.

Identities

  • Edmond Dantès : wire of Louis Dantès and promised in marriage of Mercedes, it is a young sailor full with future. It will only take again its name to complete its revenge and to justify its acts.

  • Number 34 : imprisoned wrongly in the Castle of Yew, it is the number of its cell which is used by the new governor to name the innocent one.

  • Count of Assembles-Cristo : escaped prisoner, now powerful because educated and rich, it is the title which it is given to again appear in the world.

  • Abbot Busoni : the dress making the monk, it is transformed into Italian priest for better gaining the confidence of each one.

  • Lord Wilmore : character supposémment English, eccentric and generous, it wants to be the sworn enemy of Monte Cristo.

  • Sinbad the Sailor : under the pseudonym of the legendary sailor, it saves the Morrel family of a letter accompanied by a diamond.
