Edmond François Valentine Butt , born the February 14th 1828 with Dieuze (Meurthe) and dead the January 16th 1885 with Paris, is a writer, journalist and French critic art.
Biography
Wire of grocer, it makes her studies with the small seminar, then enters to the Lycée Charlemagne where he becomes a brilliant pupil and gained the price of honor of philosophy to the open Competition. It enters then to the National university in 1848.L is named in 1851 member of the French École of Athens and remains two years in Greece in company of the architect Charles Garnier. It remains in Egypt in 1867-1868. It also takes part in the inaugural voyage of the East-Express train in 1883. It draws from each one of its voyages of the satirical works which marked. contemporary Greece (1854) gained a great success while insisting on the difference between the Greek myth founded on Antiquity and contemporary reality. the King of the mountains ridicules the romantic myth of the pallikare , warrior-gangster hero of the Guerre of Greek independence. Fellah describes how a high Egyptian peasant in Europe becomes a personality in his country and ends up marrying English, fascinated by exoticism. Of Pontoise with Stamboul parody celebrates it Itinéraire from Paris to Jerusalem of Chateaubriand.
Edmond About is also a sour art critic, very willing to scoff the painters at avant-garde. Its reports of Living room in 1855 and 1857, of a tasty comic liveliness, éreintent in particular the claims of the Réalisme of Gustave Courbet and call with prudence vis-a-vis so that he regards as a breach open to anarchy in Article.
Favorable to the Second Empire and violently anticlerical, it is made known like polemist. In 1871, it rejoins the Third Republic and supports the policy of Thiers.
