Edmond Amran el Maleh

Edmond Amran El Maleh (born in 1917 with Safi, Morocco) is a Moroccan writer.

Biography

He was born within an Jewish family originating in Essaouira. Person in charge of the Moroccan Communist party (then clandestine), it militates for the national independence of Morocco. Then, ceasing any political activity, it leaves Morocco in 1965, the year when the dictatorship of Hassan II is essential.

El Maleh is then professor of philosophy and journalist with Paris. Starting from 1980, at 63 years, it starts to write a series of novels and a collection of news. Its writings all are impregnated of a Jewish memory and Arabic who celebrates the cultural symbiosis of Arab Morocco , Berbère and Juif.

Rewards

It received, in 1996, the Grand Prix of Morocco for the whole of its work.
