The Editions of the Stag were founded in 1929, at the request of the pope Pie XI, by the Father Marie-Vincent Bernadot. This one had already created, in 1919, the review the spiritual Life , with an aim of bringing back Christian spirituality to its true sources, the Scriptures, the Pères of the Church and the large mystics. Thereafter, in 1928, the Bernadot father and other intellectuals as Jacques Maritain founded the Intellectual Life , to as well create an alternative to the influence of the theses of Charles Maurras and his movement the French Action (condemned by Rome in 1926) as with ideologies resulting from the Marxisme.
They gave him like objective “to judge the events with the intransigent and sharp light of a released Christianity of temporal conformisms where it was engoncé and as paralyzed, to make burst the truth, to make hear the message of the Christ made obscure through routine, of prudence, compromising. ” Thus were born, the October 11th 1929 with Juvisy-sur-Orge, the Editions of the Stag. It is only in January 1937, which the seat was transferred to Paris with 29 boulevard La Tour-Maubourg, in the same buildings as the Parisian convent of Saint-Dominique.
