Editions Stock
The editions Stock are a Publisher French, subsidiary of Hachette Livre, itself subsidiary of Lagardere Media.
Created at the 18th century by the bookseller Andre Cailleau, which succeeds in 1753 his/her son-in-law Nicolas-Bonaventure Duchesne (who then publishes Restif of Breton the, Voltaire and Rousseau), the publisher will be called “With the Temple of the taste” at the 19th century. Repurchased in 1845, it ends up being begun again by Pierre-Victor Stock, who will direct it from 1877 to 1921 and its name will give him.
Stock is illustrated during the Affaire Dreyfus by publishing many tests on the subject, in particular the book of Bernard Lazare, a miscarriage of justice , the Lettres of innocent a of Alfred Dreyfus and testimonys of Georges Clémenceau. In his work Memorandum of an editor , Pierre-Victor Stock estimates to have published 150 works in connection with the Dreyfus business.
The legal and financial difficulties lead the publisher to the bankruptcy. It is repurchased in 1921 per Maurice Delamain and Jacques Chardonne ( alias Jacques Boutelleau), which re-elects it “Stock, Delamain and Boutelleau”. In 1961, the two men resell the Stock editions with Hachette, which makes a subsidiary company of the group of it.
Directed successively by Andre Bay (as from 1942), Christian de Bartillat (in the years 1960 and 1970), Alain Carrère (between 1981 and 1991), Claude Durand then Jean-Marc Roberts, the Stock editions made their speciality publish works of foreign literature and topicality.
