Edgard Felix Pierre Jacobs , more known under the name of Edgar P. Jacobs , Belgian author of Cartoon born the March 30th 1904 with Brussels, dead the February 20th 1987 ( id. ). Edgar P. Jacobs is the author of the series of the Blake and Mortimer , and one of the collaborators of Hergé.
Biography
After having been appear and singer of opera between 1917 and 1940, Jacobs turns to the illustration, collaborating in the review Bravo until 1946. When the American cartoon Flash Gordon is prohibited by the German occupant, one gives him the responsibility to finish it with his way not to leave the readers without outcome. Then, it publishes in Bravo its first cartoon, the Ray U in the same style " science fiction". Same typologies of characters there are found (the nice soldier it Major Walton, the good scientist it professor Marduk-, the traitor with the service of the malicious soldiers it Dagon captain).
It becomes friendly of Hergé and will work with him with the recasting of the albums Tintin in Congo , Tintin in America , the Sceptre of Ottokar , and the blue Lotus in 1943, then it collaborates the following year in the 7 Crystal balls and in the Temple of the Sun taking part in particular in the drawing of the decorations, the materials and the equipment.
In 1946, it belongs to the team of new the Journal of Tintin which publishes its cartoon the secrecy of the swordfish by weekly boards in fourth of cover. As of 1947, it ceases its collaboration with the drawing of the adventures of Tintin to devote itself to its heroes while continuing with Hergé to illustrate the newspaper and publishes the mystery of the large pyramid in 1950. An album become legendary of Jacobs, the yellow mark appears in 1953. Follow one another the enigma of Atlantis in 1955, S.O.S meteors in 1958, the diabolic trap in 1960, the business of the collar in 1965.
Jacobs publishes in 1977 the first volume of the 3 Formulas of the professor Satō being held in Japan. They are only thirteen years later that will appear the second volume, posthumous, entirely drawn by Bob de Moor, according to the scenario and the model of Jacobs.
The adventures of Blake and Mortimer will know new episodes under the pencil and the feather of various draftsmen and scenario writers, who will refer discrete to last “the Jacobsien” of the series like as many winks to the amateurs of the first hour (the Business Francis Blake in 1996 by Jean Van Hamme and Ted Benoit, the Machination Voronov in 2000 by Yves Sente and André Juillard, the Strange Appointment in 2001 by Jean Van Hamme and Ted Benoit, the Sarcophagi of the 6th continent volume 1 in 2003 and volume 2 in 2004 by Yves Sente and André Juillard). Today, of many draftsmen work in his graphic spirit, Ted Benoit, André Juillard, Philippe Dumas, Jean-François Miniac.

Anecdotes
Edgar Pierre Jacobs helped Hergé with the realization of the second version of the Cigares of the Pharaon . It appears even in the album like on the cover in the person of E.P. Jacobini (page 8 puts 1) being the 14th momifié Egyptologist “having violated the burial of the Pharaon Kih-Oskh”. One also sees it with his bow tie in the Seven Crystal balls , whereas the Haddock captain entered in scene carrier of a head of cow. Having worked on the redessin of the Sceptre of Ottokar it also appears there in large uniform of cuirassier like Hergé (pages 38 and 59) and other members of the studio. It is also present for Objectif the Moon , in front of a drawing board (page 40) at the research center of Sbrodj.
