Economy of the area Centers
The area Center is the 1st European cereal area (Beauce) and the 5th French industrial area.
In 2004, it is:
- 1st area for the production of drugs
- 2nd area for the production of cosmetic products
- 2nd area for the activity “rubber” (8000 employment with establishment of a factory Michelin with Play-the-Turns and Saint-Doulchard and of a factory Hutchinson with Châlette-on-Loing, Play-the-Turns and Chambray-the-Turns.
- 2nd area for the electrical production
- 3rd area for the activity “Plastics”
- 3rd area for the activity “Edition - Graphic arts”
- 3rd area for industrial subcontracting
- 4th area for the activity High-Tech
- It is only with the 11th rank for agribusiness industries on the level manpower (17th rank on the level turnover).
“Cosmetic Valley”

The axis Orleans - Chartres is called the cosmetic valley because of the density of industries of this type. This term comes from an association created in Eure-et-Loir in 1994 and was recognized “Pole of competitiveness” in 2005. This zone was extended to the the Eure and the Yvelines. It comprises companies like Shisheido (with Gien since 1991), Hermes, Gemey, Guerlain (with Chartres) or Dior (with Saint-Jean-of-Sling in the Loiret). It employs in 2005 nearly 16.000 paid with a turnover of almost 2,5 billion euros.
Agriculture
Nearly 29.700 farms are indexed on a surface reaching 2,4 million hectares. 473 000 hectares are devoted to fodder, making it possible to feed close to 267 000 Bovidae.
The agro-alimentary sector employs nearly 70.000 people (a little more than 7% regional employment).
The Beauce and the Champagne berrichonne are primarily cereal with the Blé like principal culture.
The Center is the second producing area of colza diester (fuel of substitution).
It counts 5 AOC goat's milk cheeses and 22 wine AOC
