Economy of Suriname

The economy of Suriname , is dominated by the mining industry which represents more than one third of the GDP and incomes of the government. It is a branch of industry, prone to a great volatility of the prices. The economic outlooks for short durations, depend on the capacity of the government to control inflation and on the development of projects in the mining sectors like bauxite and gold.

The government of the president Ronald Venetiaan, in the first time, undertook a programme of austerity, increase in the taxes, and on control of expense public and the economic outlooks for the Suriname for medium term, will depend on the engagement supported with a monetary policy and tax responsible and with the introduction for structural reforms of liberalization of the markets.
