Economy of Slovenia

With its small saving in transition and a population from roughly two million D `inhabitants, the Slovenia is a model of success economic and stability for its neighbors of old the Yugoslavia.

The country, which joined the European Union in 2004, has a labor of very good level, a strategic geographical site and infrastructures of good quality.

Slovenia has a GDP per capita higher than the other countries of Central Europe and it became in 2004 the first country from of transition from an official economy towards a liberal economy to pass from the statute of country borrower to partner giver to the the World Bank.

Many sectors of the economy remain still directed and the overseas investments as Slovenia are lowest of the European Union.

The taxes are relatively high and the market of labor remains still very regulated.

Industries, heritage of the communist period, lose market shares with the profit of more competitive countries, like the China, the India and well of others.

In October 2004, the government promised to accelerate the privatization of several large companies of state and to implement economic reforms of fall of the fiscal charges, of flexibilisation of the job market. He wants to also increase the effectiveness of the government.

Adhesion with the euro

As of 1991, the country fixed adhesion at the euro like ultimate goal of all its rectification and of its economic development, which obliged it has to agree of the very great efforts. For the Prime Minister Janez Janša, “ Nobody would have imagined whereas we prepare to enter later the euro area fifteen years ”. With a level of purchasing power to 79% of the European average Slovenia caught up with Greece and Portugal today.

The April 7th, 2006, the Ministers for the Eurogroupe gave a good report for the performances of the country - 4% of annual growth and 7% of unemployment rate - and for its respect of the constraints of adhesion to the euro.

The May 16th, 2006, the evaluation report of the European commission concerning the five criteria of Maastricht - control of public finances, stability of foreign exchange rates, controls durable inflation - is made public.

July 11th, 2006, the European Council composed of the Ministers for Finance of the euro area meant its agreement with the adoption of the single currency by Slovenia, estimating that this country respects the whole of the criteria in relation to the national debt, the budget deficit, interest rates and finally inflation.

Slovenia east thus, at the first January 2007, 13th country of the euro area and the first of the country to have joined the European Union after the introduction of the common currency. The currency value is fixed by the ECB at 1 euro for 239,64 Tolar S.

Parts in euro of Slovenia

The ministry for finances of Slovenia decided to differentiate each part by a different effigy.

All the illustrations come from 3 Slovenien draftsmen who were selected following the " National competition for the establishment of the Slovenien parts in euro" , in which had been able to take part any person of Slovenien or alive nationality as Slovenia for at least 18 months and having more than 12 years.

The part of 0,01 € represents the stork, animal fetish which was reproduced already on the Slovenien parts of 20 SIT (a manner of establishing the link between the old one and the new monetary system).

The part of 0,02 € represents the " Pierre of Prince". This stone is part of column coming from a Roman temple on which, with the Moyen-âge, the armorial bearings Duché of Carinthie were engraved. She played a big role at the time of the ceremonies of crowning of the prince, then Duc of Carinthie (this part was object of discord between the Gouvernement S Slovenien and Austrian because the Austria considers that, as the Carinthie is currently a Länd autonomous Austrian, Slovenia should not refer explicitly there.

The part of 0,05 € represents the " Sower of étoile" , reproduction of a table of the painter Ivan Grohar.

The part of 0,10 € represents the " Cathedral of Paix" , project of building intended to shelter the Slovenien Parliament presented by the Slovenien architect Joze Plecnik (1872 - 1957).

The part of 0,20 € represents a couple of Lipizzans, these famous white horses whose name is especially associated with the Spanish School of Vienna, the oldest equestrian academy in the world. Their name comes from Lipica, Slovenien small village located close to Trieste.

The part of 0,50 € represents the Triglav (2 864 meters), plus high summit of the the Slovenien Alps. This part is associated here with the Constellation of cancer, signs zodiacal under which Slovenia acquired her Indépendance.

The part of 1,00 € represents Primoz Trubar (1508 - 1586). Protesting, he is at the same time the founder of the Protestant Church of Slovenia and the saver of the language, in which he made print the first works in 1550. It published some nearly 25, of which a translation of the New Testament.

The part of 2,00 € represents France Preseren (1800 - 1849), Slovenien poet. It is the seventh stanza of its poem Zdravljica which was retained to compose, in 1991, the national anthem. The first words are reproduced on the part under its profile.
