Economy of Maldives

The Gross domestic product of the Maldives in 2002 was of 0,63 billion American dollars (either 2172 USD per capita) and the rough National product with 0,65 billion dollar (or 2241 USD per capita).

The debt rises in 1999 to 206 million dollars.

The active population is employed to 40% in the Agriculture, at 15% in the Industrie and to 45% in the service sector. Each one of these three branches of industry respectively accounts for 31,18 and 51% of the GNP.

The currency is the Rufiyaa (code MVR). A rufiyaa is divided into 100 laari.
