The craft industry occupied at the end of 2000,15% of the active population, that is to say 28.443 paid and 1.922 apprentices and represented 11.951 companies registered with the Répertoire of the Trades, divided into:

  • equipment of the house: 11,2%

Large surfaces

At the end of 2006, the department had 600 commercial establishments of more than 300 m2, for an entire surface of 705.419 m2, including/understanding:
  • 13 hypermarkets (78 105 m2)
  • 92 supermarkets (112 844 m2)
  • 24 maxidiscounts (17 600 m2)
  • 6 department stores and popular stores (14 640 m2)
  • 465 specialized stores (482 230 m2)

From 1998 to 2005,65 new large surfaces were built, for a surface of 50.000 m2.

At the end of indicator 2006 of the activities, all confused trade:

  • equipment of the culture and the leisures: 24,6%
  • food: 20,7%
  • hygiene-health: 16,0%
  • equipment of the person: 13,7%
  • equipment of the hearth: 11,5%

Spend average 2006 per capita: 21 706,34 €. Since the increase of the euro (2004-2007), the Swiss customers are a little bit less present, about -5/- 6%, whereas it represents half of the turnover in the high-Savoyard sector of the Genevese.

The traditional small shop, less than 300 m2, accounts for at the end of 2006,84% of the number of the trade, but only 40% of the sales areas.

Foreign trade

In 1999, the deposit rate of exports compared to the imports was of 170,06% (for France it was of 103,58%). 40% of the top-Savoyard employees work directly for export.

Exports are mainly made towards: Germany, the United States, Switzerland, Italy and the United Kingdom.

The imports come mainly from: Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and the United States.

4.301 companies were created in 2004 in Haute-Savoie, that is to say +5,3% compared to 2003 including nearly 80% in the tertiary sector with a preponderance for the service with the private individuals (hotels, restaurants, activities of leisures, cultural and sporting, personal services and servants). The trade in general accounts for 21,6% of creations of companies.

Four industrial sectors are particularly dynamic: the real estate (+24%), construction (+15,4%), services with the companies (+12,4%) and agribusiness industry (+10%).

Undercutting

The Décolletage is the industry of the machining of parts of utmost precision, high-Savoyard undercutting accounts for 63% of French undercutting in turnovers, 20% of the industrial companies of the department, with a growth rate of 7% in the year 2000.

Its main customers by decreasing industrial sector are the car, electronics and the électoménager.

Seek

The high-Savoyard research sector, deposited 201 patents in 2000 and is represented by:

  • the Physics laboratory of the particles with Annecy-the-Old man;
  • research laboratories, related on ESIA and the IUT;
  • the Technical center of undercutting (CTDEC), with Cluses;
  • Thesame - mecatronic and management: computer-integrated manufacturing, sensors (measurements and instrumentations), manufactoring process, sciences of the services.

Services

The service sector counted at the end of December 2000, 75.768 paid in 11.129 companies divided into:

  • Hotels and restaurants: 26,5%
  • real activities: 24,6%
  • council and assistance: 14,0%
  • Transport: 6,1%
  • financial activities: 6,2%

Tourism

The sector of tourism represented at the end of December 2000, 635.000 beds divided into:

  • 1250 rural lodgings
  • 803 hotels
  • 453 rooms of hosts
  • 191 camp-sites
  • 70 lodgings of stage-stays
  • 40 refuges of high-mountain

Over 1999, the frequentation assembled herself in 37,9 44% and night million, including 56% in winter for the remainder of the year.

Social

Employment

  • total Active population resident : : 314940 (1999) of which having an employment: : 295099 (93,70%)
  • Private sector : : 176743 (1999) is 59,89%, of which: BTP: 6,3%, Industry: 23,6%, Trade: 14,4% and Services: 53,4%

  • Characteristic : Many high-Savoyard workers is employed in the French-speaking cantons Switzerland. The figures are of: 25721 high-Savoyard crosses border dailies to work end 1999, of: 35075 end 2002 and of: 52202 at the end of November 2006 in growth of 12% over 2007.

  • Unemployment rate : 8,2% in December 1998, 7,6% in December 1999, 6,3% in November 2000 and 5,8% in January 2007.

  • Applicant for work : : 19466 (end 2003) -: 16257 in August 2006: 15448 in January 2007.

For rentée of September 2000, the Haute-Savoie had:

  • 198 nursery schools and 450 elementary schools, accommodating 73.260 pupils;
  • 28 colleges of mainstream education and 20 colleges of vocational training, accommodating 22.663 pupils;
  • 68 colleges, accommodating 36.894 pupils;
  • 35 CFA-UFA, accommodating 3.443 apprentices;
  • 14 establishments of agricultural training, accommodating 2.990 pupils.

Higher education, always in 1999, trained 8.052 students, divided in:

  • classes BTS, accommodating 1.924 students;
  • the IUT of Annecy-the-Old man (University of Savoy), accommodating 1.720 students;
  • the University of engineers d' Annecy (Polytech' Savoy), accommodating 387 students;
  • the UFR tertiary sector of companies, accommodating 599 students;
