Economy of Guyana

The economic situation of the Guyana is considered to be difficult, with a fort of unemployment rate of 29,1% and one deposit rate of the Importation S by the Exportation S of 16,3%. The welfare transfers have an important weight in the economy.

However since the year 2004, one observes a strong growth constant by an increase in the space activity and sector of the Construction. The industrial sectors and of the mining extraction are also in growth to a lesser extent.

Primary sector

Wood

The natural main resource of the Guyana is the Bois. The forest contains many invaluable wood used in joinery. This vegetation is difficult access because of the lack of forest tracks and its character luxuriant.

Agriculture

Agriculture is developed rather little. On the other hand there exists in the area of the littoral center of the farms of importance. Rice

The culture of rice is done on Polders which gather on the commune of Mana. The whole of the exploitations represents approximately 4000 Hectares, the output varit between 4 to 5 tons per hectare. Rice is consumed locally and exported with the Surinam and in the Caribbean one. For a few years the rice production has fallen because of plant health attack.

Fishing

In Guyana it is an industrial activity, with the fishing of Crevette and the Vivaneau. The boats unload their catches with the Port of Larivot, 9th French fishing port. Secondary industry

The sector is helped by a constant public order (Highway network of Guyana, public buildings, etc…) and a dynamic space sector (new No shooting Soyuz). The sector is fed by a cement factory.

Mining

Tertiary sector

This sector is dominated by the services public and the trade of proximity.

There exists a small tourist actvity (country holidays) which suffers from an bad image of the department in the media and the spirits (green Hell).
