Economy of Burgundy
Burgundian agriculture dynamic, powerful and is very specialized: cereals (corn and barley in the Yonne and the Coast-with Or), oilseeds, bovine breeding (Charolais, Morvan, Resident of Nevers), Vine growing (Coasts of Beaune, Nights, High-Coasts, Chalonnaise Coast, Mâconnais, Beaujolais wine).
The industry, which developed as of the 19th century (coal of Montceau-the-Mines, Sidérurgie of Creusot, mines of the Machine), made new great strides after 1945, particularly in the valley of the the Saone (Mâcon, Châlon-sur-saône), with Dijon and in Yonne, but was not saved by the crisis. On the other hand, the north of the area, low in large companies, benefitted from the installation of less heavy, more diversified and less vulnerable industries: parachimy, drug company, electronics, plasturgie, paper mill, mechanical engineering industries and automobile, agroalimentary. Lastly, the foreign trade and tourism (gastronomy, history, culture, country holidays in the natural park of the Morvan) provide to the area appreciable complementary resources.
