Economic and Social Council of the United Nations

The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (often indicated by its English initials ECOSOC , that is to say Economic and Social Council ) is one of the six principal bodies of UNO. It is placed under the aegis of the General meeting of the United Nations and has an advisory role concerning the questions of economic cooperation and social international.
Its role
Its role is to examine questions in the fields economic, social, cultural, educational, of public health, Sustainable development, and any other field connected with the latter. It also maintains the close links with the ONG in the fields of its competence.
It can delegate the questions being able to be treated by a body specialized in UNO. As example, the questions treating of the vaccination campaigns are delegated to WHO.
Composition
The Council is composed of an Office and members of the Council.
The Office is made up:
- of a president,
- of 4 vice-presidents.
The members of the Council are 54 and are divided according to geographical areas. Fourteen seats are allocated to the African States, 11 in the Asian States, 6 in the States d' Europe Eastern, 10 in the States of Latin America and the Caribbean and 13 in the States of Western Europe and other États.
The members of the Council are elected by the General meeting of the United Nations. They are renewed per third on December 31st of each year, their mandate being thus 3 years.
Sessions
The Economic and Social Council generally meets in basic session each year during 5 weeks, once with New York and once with Geneva.
A minimum of 2 sessions of organization proceed in New York.
