Roh Moo-hyun was born the August 6th 1946 in a poor family from farmers in Gimhae, close to Busan. He was the president of the South Korea February 25th 2003 with the March 12th 2004 and since the May 14th 2004.

Married with Kwon Yang-sook, it has a son born in 1973 and a girl born in 1975.


Professional path

  • 1966 : Business school of Busan.

  • 1975 : Admitted with the 17th examination of the national bar.
  • 1977 : Judge at the Jurisdictional Court of Daejeon.
  • 1978 : Lawyer of the bar, specialized in the taxes.
  • 1981 : Beginnings of its career as a lawyer of the human rights after having defended a student implied in “the Incident of Burim” of Busan.

  • 1987: President of the Movement of the Citizens for a Constitution. Democratic. It was one of the leader of the Fights for the Democratization of June 1987 with Busan against the dictator Chun Doo-hwan.
  • 1991 : Spokesperson of the Unified Democratic party.
  • 1993 : Director of the Research center for Local Autonomy.
  • 1997 : Vice-president of the CNNP (National congress for a New Policy).

Parliamentary career

  • 1988 : Elected with the thirteenth National Assembly in the cirsconscription Is of Busan, as a representative of the plain Democratic party .
    • Member of the Special Committee of Investigation of Political Corruption, during the Fifth Republic, it attacked also the government on the massacre of demonstrators in 1980.
  • 1998: Elected official with the 15th National Assembly during an election in the district of Jongno, like candidate of the CNNP.

Ministerial and presidential career

  • August 2000 - March 2001: Minister for the Maritime businesses and Fishing.
  • December 2002: Elected official chair Republic of Korea, at the time of the sixteenth presidential elections with 48,9% of the voices vis-a-vis his adversary Lee Hoi-chang (GPN). He took his functions the February 25th, 2003.
  • the South Korean Parliament adopted, the March 12th, 2004, a motion without precedent which suspended its functions president Roh Moo-hyun. The Constitutional court invalidated the impeachment the May 14th, 2004. The president had given in February 2004 his support for the Parti Uri (for the elections of April), which is an infringement with the electoral code. The top intercoréen of October 2007

At the time of the second top intercoréen on the level of the Heads of State, organized in Pyongyang from October 2nd to 4th 2007, president Roh Moo-hyun was the host of his counterpart North-Korean Kim Jong-il: the two leaders signed a common document where they are committed promoting peace and economic prosperity in the peninsula. For this purpose, they will negotiate with the United States and China the installation, according to the terms of the joint statement of October 4th, of " a system of peace permanent" which would replace the current situation of armistice, which always prevails in the peninsula since the end of war of Korea in 1953.
