Ecological Protection zone

The ecological protection zone is a maritime zone under French jurisdiction created in 2004 beyond the territorial sea in the Mediterranean, pursuant to the law n° 76-655 of July 16th, 1976 relating to the economic zone to broad of the coasts of the territory of the Republic modified in 2003.

In this zone, which is an “attenuated” version of the exclusive economic Zone, the France obtained only part of competences associated with a ZEE; she assumes there in particular the obligations as regards protection of the Environnement, which enables him to continue in front of the national courts (courts of the Coastal state) the infringements made in this zone which could be before continued only by the Flag state, and were it hardly (Dégazage S and others maritime Pollution S volunteers, for example).
