Echuca

Echuca (: 10700 inhabitants) is a city of the state of Victoria, in Australia on the Murray, the river which makes the border between the state of Victoria and the News-Wales-of-South. It is opposite Moama, in News-Wales-of-South city to which it is connected by a bridge since 1870.

The city is located near the confluence of the Goulburn and of the Campaspe with Murray and the indigenous name of the city the " means; meet eaux".

The city knew its hour of glory at the end of XIXme century; , when it was used as point of transfer between the goods (wool, cattle, cereals, wood,…) arrivals by Murray to be conveyed to the port of Melbourne by the railroad. But the development of road transport and railway removed this utility at the city which saw especially tourism and agriculture.
