Ecclesia Dei

Ecclesia Dei adflicta is the first words of a Motu landlord promulgated by the Pape Jean-Paul II the July 2nd 1988 and into force until September 13rd, 2007. As of on September 14th indeed, Motu landlord Summorum Pontificum replaced it.

The use of the rite tridentin

It is about an answer to the “Schisme” caused by M {{gr.}} Lefebvre, following episcopal dedications without pontifical mandate within the Fraternité Saint-Pie X. In addition to the recall of the Excommunication of the bishops consécrateurs and the four new bishops, this motu landlord affirms the desire of the Église to bring together at the catholic community the faithful traditionalists, in particular while requiring of the bishop S to grant in broad way a “and the generous” practice of the liturgical books of 1962 in their dioceses.

According to this motu landlord :

“With all the faithful catholics who feel attached to certain liturgical and disciplinary forms former of the Latin tradition, I also wish to express my will - which I ask that the bishops and all those join which have a pastoral ministry in the Church - to facilitate the communion connected with the church to them thanks to necessary measures to guarantee the respect of their aspirations. ”

Thus are known as “communities Ecclesia Dei ” the Sacerdotal Fraternité Saint-Pierre, the Institut of Christ King Souverain Priest, or the Institut of Good Pasteur, but also of the monasteries Benedictines the such Abbaye Holy-Madeleine of Barroux or Abbaye Notre-Dame de Fontgombault or of the Dominican religious communities, augustiniennes or diocésaines. These communities accept the conclusions of the Concile Vatican II, in particular as regards Ecclésiologie, and recognize the pontifical authority, on which they depend sometimes directly, but profit from an exemption as for the liturgy employed in their celebrations.
