Ebonite

It is at last century that Charles Goodyear obtained the ebonite by subjecting the rubber to a prolonged process of Vulcanization. Its color close to that of the ebony is at the origin of its name.

Rubber vulcanized with 20% to sulfur 40%. Black, hard and breakable solid used as electrical insulator. Manufactured since 1839, ebonite is the ancestor of the artificelles resins.
