Ebles Manzer
Ebles Manzer (i.e. the Bastard one), born towards 870, died in 935, Count de Poitiers of 890 with 892 and of 902 with 934. It succeeds his father Ramnulf II.
Although established count by his father Ramnulf II, it must flee in front of Aymar of Poitiers, supported by Eudes I {{er}} of France, which takes Poitiers in 892 and installs it in the county. Ebles, as for him, finds refuge at Guillaume the Piles, count d' Auvergne, which benefits from it to make pass Aquitaine under its cut.
In 902, Ebles launches out to the conquest of its county with an army lent by the count of Auvergne Guillaume the Piles, a distant relative. It takes Poitiers in the absence of Aymar then overcomes it. Charles III Simple the, with which Ebles was raised, invests it count de Poitou, only title which it ever carried.
Ebles allots the Abbaye of Saint-Maixent to the Viscount Savary Ier de Thouars who supported it. It restructures Poitou by creating new Viscounts with Aulnay and Miss (Two-Sevres) and removes the Viscount of Poitou with died of its Maingaud holder in 925.
In 904 it conquers the the Limousin. In 911 Ebles is in Chartres in the army which fights Rollon with the hill of Lères (see Traité Saint-Clearly-on-Epte).
Guillaume the Young person, heir to Guillaume Piles, then his/her brother and Acfred successor die in the one year space in 927. Acfred having made of Ebles its heir, it thus finds duke of Aquitaine, count of the Berry, Auvergne and the Velay.
In 929, the king Raoul tries to reduce the capacity of Ebles Manzer. He withdraws initially Berry to him, then in 932 he transfers the title from duke of Aquitaine and the county of Auvergne to the count de Toulouse Raymond III Pons. Moreover the territory of the Walk which depended on the lords of Charroux, vassal of Ebles, is transformed into independent county.
He married Émilienne of which he had two wire, Ebles, bishop of Limoges, and Guillaume III of Poitiers.
